Relationship Therapy

About Relationship Therapy

Psychodynamic relationship counseling delves into the unconscious patterns and early life experiences that shape your current relationship dynamics. My approach recognizes the profound influence of cultural values, familial expectations, and intergenerational dynamics on your relationship. Relational dynamics within collectivistic cultures may face unique challenges, such as family pressures in partner selection, differing acculturation levels, or the complexities of arranged marriages. For many cross-cultural and inter-religious partnerships from collectivistic cultures, relationships can extend beyond the individual partners to encompass extended family and community expectations.

My work aims to go beyond Western individualistic ideals of couples counseling to honour and integrate values that you and your partner(s) attach importance to. I aim to address the specific needs of LGBTQIA+ relationships, non-traditional partnerships, and non-monogamous, polyamorous relationships in an affirmative manner, recognizing the intersectionality of cultural and sexual identities. My practice is also kink-friendly, providing a safe and confidential space for you and your partner(s) to explore all aspects of your sexuality and relationship dynamics.

Sessions are 75 minutes long, and are typically held at the same day and time every week. According to your requirements, additional sessions can be arranged after due discussion. Our work begins with an initial consultation session where we get to know each other a little better: understanding your reasons for seeking relationship counselling and assessing your needs and expectations from our sessions. Should we choose to contract and work together, we mutually decide on a certain number of sessions to start with. As our work progresses and our relationship develops, we can review, renegotiate, and re-contract based on your needs.

I currently only offer online sessions and e-therapy, through which you can access mental health services from the comfort of your home.
