PROSE & CONS(CIOUSNESS)
AN ACADEMIC, ANALYTIC READING GROUP FOR THERAPISTS!
In an increasingly divided world that often sees matters in absolutes, fostering critical thinking through psychoanalytic knowledge can impact our field by helping it be more attuned to the subtleties of patients’ experiences, especially around psychological wounding, cultural trauma, othering, and discrimination. Moving away from oppressor-centric narratives that can lead to the silencing and minimization of massive psychic traumas (especially during times of humanitarian crises), the focus of our readings and discussions is to challenge our assumptions and expand our clinical horizons and the way we think about our work, our clients, and the world around us.
Our group consumes and critiques scholarly works by pioneers in psychoanalysis, ranging from traditional analytic texts to contemporary pieces of psychodynamic literature. If you are interested in introducing psychodynamic thought to your practice, seek to identify how we can contribute to paradigmatic shifts in the counseling field, or want to discuss analytic theory with a group of people who seek to tease out nuances hidden in dense texts, reach out! Please note that in an effort to uphold clear ethical boundaries, this group is not open to present and former clients.
I am currently not running any reading groups. This page will be updated when reading groups are resumed.
